Welcome to the Loyalist Men’s League information Page. Here you will find information on the league and its upcoming season schedule.

Mens League Information

The Loyalist Men’s league, established in 1996, holds friendly weekly competitions every Tuesday morning.

The Men’s League is open to all members from within the Loyalist community and outlying communities. Memberships of all can be included into play, and it is a great way to meet other golfers.

How this works:

* A block of tee times is reserved each Tuesday morning and you are assigned to a different group each week by the convenor, so over the course of the playing year you get to play with just about everyone.

* There is no requirement to play each week and plan members pay their usual green fee, but only for the weeks they play.

* There are a variety of competitions (e.g. Stableford, best ball, monthly medal, etc) and most are played under handicap, so there is an equal chance for all to win the weekly prizes.

* On certain holes, there are prizes to be awarded for closest to the pin on 4 par 3s and closest to the pin 2nd shot on 2 par 4s.

* If you don’t have a registered handicap yet, don’t worry! The convenor can set you up with a temporary handicap, so you can compete right away. Registration with GAO is mandatory, so please make sure you get registered with the Golf Association Ontario through the admin office, discount, so you can keep an official handicap going forward.

The Men’s League welcomes golfers of all abilities and currently has members ranging in handicap from 6 to 35

Majority of the men’s league members play in the 18-hole competitions but there is also a lively 9-hole flight for those who prefer a shorter round.

There are several tees to choose from. Yellow, forward tees, Red, Red/White, White. The 18 hole competitors normally play white and Red/White and some 9 hole players play Red tees.

There are also several popular (but optional) Ladder Match competitions (singles, pairs, shark shootout and putting) that take place over the summer, and we are happy to pair you up with a partner in the pair’s completions if you don’t have, pending availability.

Once a month there is a luncheon at the club following a scramble format, but again, participation in golf and luncheon is optional.

The annual Men’s League fee is $40. You are welcome to join at any time during the year.

If you don’t have a registered handicap yet, don’t worry! The convenor can set you up with a temporary handicap, so you can compete right away. The league will be establishing a Tuesday handicap for league play only. Registration with GAO is mandatory, so please make sure you get registered with the Golf Association Ontario through the admin office, so you can keep an official handicap going forward.

It is worth noting also that there is an active Women’s League as well, also on Tuesdays.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to email the league captain at [email protected] if you have any questions about the league

We look forward to seeing you on the course.

Games Information & Rules

TEAM GAMES:

Scramble

Teams select best drive on each hole, everyone hits 2nd shot from the same spot and process is repeated until ball is in the hole. Maximum number of drives per player is 5 for a 4-man team (including par 3’s). For a 3-man team, maximum 7 drives per player + Phantom Player is allowed one ´do over’ (drive, fairway, or putt) per hole. Rotate Phantom Player each hole. {Team Handicap determined by 20% of Player A (lowest HC) + 15% of Player B (2nd lowest HC + 10% of Player C (2nd highest HC) + 5% of Player D (highest HC).}

2 Man Better Ball

Play own ball using full handicap. Team score based on best net score of a player on the hole. Maximum 10 strokes on a hole. Do not pick up when net par plus two reached for a hole.

4 Man Best Ball

Play own ball using full handicap. Team score based on best net score of a player on the hole. For 3-man WE WILL DO A “BLIND DRAW: Maximum 10 strokes on a hole. Do not pick up when net par plus two reached for a hole.

Member – Guest Day – 2 Man Best Ball/2 Man Cumulative Net

A 2-man team both with GO Handicaps will play a 2 Man Best Ball. Each player will play own ball. Team score based on best net score of a player on the hole.

For 2-man teams where only one player has a GO handicap, the handicapped player will play own ball and record gross score (with an Equitable Score maximum per hole), then deduct their handicap to determine a net score for the round. The non-handicapped player will play own ball and record gross score (maximum double par on any hole) – their handicap will be calculated, after the game, using the Callaway Scoring System – both net scores will be added together to establish a team score. The Callaway System is a handicap algorithm designed to provide a handicap estimate based on one round of play. The Callaway ‘handicap’ can then be used to calculate a net score for that round. COST: Guest Green Fees $50 & ½ Cart Rental $22, CCC Members’ Guest $45 & ½ Cart $20. All prices include taxes.

Captain’s Cup Day Team Cumulative Net Score

Participants are placed into 3 or 4 teams (flights) based on handicap. Play own ball, record gross score for each hole then deduct handicap from overall 18-hole total to determine net score. Net scores are aggregated by flight to determine the winning team. To improve pace of play, the maximum number of strokes on any hole will be 10. Each team (flight) will tee off together with a block of tee times.

Net Vegas(Modified)

A 2 person, A flight player plus B flight player, points team game where the player’s net scores are combined to create the team’s score. Points are awarded to the team based on the teams’ scores differential from double par. To create the team’s score, each net score is combined to form a number with the lowest score first. For example, if Team A has net 5 and net 6 individual scores, the team score would be 56. You subtract double par from the score, i.e. 56-(par 4)44=12 points. At the end of the round, the team with the lowest points score wins, 2nd and 3rd. Full handicaps are in play.

Net 2 Man Aggregate

Each player plays their own ball on every hole, and the net scores of both teammates are added together for each hole. The team with the lowest total aggregate score after 18 holes wins, then 2nd and 3rd. After each player completes the hole, their individual scores are added to form a single team score for that hole. For example, if Player A scores a 5 and Player B scores a 6, the team’s aggregate score for that hole is 11. Full handicaps to be used. Max individual score is NET DOUBLE PAR

Net Whack and Hack

A four man team format that combines a four-player team’s best ball and worst ball on each hole — unless the best ball is a birdie or better. In that case, the team gets a very nice bonus. Everyone plays their own ball throughout (you’re just playing regular golf, in other words), all four team members recording scores on each hole. At the completion of a hole, take your team’s lowest score (whack) and combine it with your team’s highest score (hack), and that’s your team score for the hole.

Example: On the first hole, Golfer A makes 5, Golfer B a 4, Golfer C a 6 and Golfer D a 5. The team score is 10, because the low ball was a four and the high ball was a six.

The Whack and Hack Birdie Twist

Let’s say your team is playing a par-5 hole. Golfer A makes 5, Golfer B a 6, Golfer C a 4 and Golfer D a 7. Golfer C’s four is a birdie. In the game, when a team’s low ball is a birdie, then the team gets to use its two low balls on that hole, rather than its low ball and high ball. So in this case, the team score is 9 (Golfer C’s birdie four plus Golfer A’s five).

Net 4 Man Cha Cha Cha

It is called the 4-man “cha cha cha” because it involves a three-hole rotation, and in golf, the first hole is called ‘cha’, the second hole is called ‘cha cha’, and the third hole is called ‘cha cha cha’. For the first hole, the lowest score in the team is counted as the team score. For the second hole, two low balls combined are counted as the team score, and for the third hole, three low balls combined make up the team score. The process starts over on the fourth hole. Lowest score over 18 holes.

INDIVIDUAL GAMES:

Net Stableford

Play own ball, record gross and net score per hole and apply applicable points for the Net score (4 for eagle, 3 for birdie, 2 for par, 1 for bogey). Add up Stableford points for the round. To improve pace of play, a player may pick-up when their number of strokes matches or exceeds their maximum Equitable Score for the hole.

Good, Bad & Ugly

Play own ball, points awarded based on net score per hole, 3 points for eagle, 2 for birdie, 1 for par, 0 for bogey, minus 1 for double bogey or worse.

Gross Stableford

Play own ball, points awarded based on gross score per hole, 4 points for eagle, 3 for birdie, 2 for par, 1 for bogey. Total number of Stableford points for 18 holes is then added to your handicap. To improve pace of play, a player may pick-up when their number of strokes matches or exceeds their maximum Equitable Score for the hole.

Medal Play

Individual stroke play using full handicaps. Record Gross score on each hole and Net score for the round. The field will be divided into 2 Flights based on Handicaps. Maximum 10 strokes on a hole. Do not pick up when net par plus two reached for a hole. No gimmies allowed for this game – putt everything in. Low Net prizes in each flight.

Bingo Bango Bongo.

Individual play by flight, A/B. Players compete to win one of three points on each hole for specific achievements: the “Bingo” point is for the first player to reach the green, the “Bango” point is for the player closest to the hole once all balls are on the green, and the “Bongo” point is for the first player to sink their putt. Must follow rules

of farthest from pin putt first. The player with the most points at the end of the round in each flight wins, followed by 2nd and 3rd place. No handicaps to be used in play.
